C.O.P.E. Facilitator Training Weekends. For adults 18 and older and
youth 16-17 who enjoy helping others develop their skills and have
a lot of fun in the woods! 2 weekends req. Staff trainees should
have already done a COPE Course.

House at Six Flags
Weekends in October. A couple of hours skulking around the Longhorn
Council's new-bigger-better haunted house, showing park patrons what
real "Ghoul-Scouts" can do: and your entire group can enjoy
Six Flags Over Texas for FREE! For anyone 14 years old and over.

Rock
Climbing Training (& Rock/Tower Recert. Classes)
Rock Climbing Training (& Rock/Tower Recert. Classes). This course
is designed to certify ADULTS to lead climbing and rappelling activities
for their units on rock. Completion of this training qualifies the
participant as a BSA Instructor, able to lead single or multi-unit
activities at any location. Course is Friday evening through late
Sunday afternoon at SR2. There is no class size limit, but pre-registration
is required.

We'll have completely new 5-color orienteering maps for 2005 and two
400 gallon water buffaloes for water refills. It's a fast-paced,
exciting Orienteering competition - the Longhorn Council's most popular
event! Your team gets a SCORE-O map half an hour before the race starts.
You plan your strategy to find the most flags and maximize your score
in 4 hours. For teams of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Team members,
Venturers, Explorers and adults.

of the Ogletree Gap: High Adventure Living History Weekend
Join the Chisholm Trail Adventure staff and Venturing Crew 1872 at
the Battle of Ogletree Gap Civil War Reenactment, near Copperas Cove,
TX. Youll wear the uniform, learn the drill, eat the food, and
live the life of a trooper in the 1860s. Venture Crew Members
can work on their Outdoor Living History Elective for the Ranger Award.
Open to: Boy Scouts, Varsity Teams, and Venturing; must be 14 to participate.

Staff Training - Fall 2
C.O.P.E. Facilitator Training Weekends. For adults 18 and older and
youth 16-17 who enjoy helping others develop their skills and have
a lot of fun in the woods! Challenge course facilitators guide Scouts,
Scouters, and people of all sizes, shapes, and physical abilities
through initiative problems and low and high ropes course challenges
to develop leadership, goal setting, communication, decision-making,
problem solving, teamwork, confidence, trust, and self-esteem. 2 weekends
req. Staff trainees should have already completed a COPE Course.

Battle
of the Crockett: High Adventure Living History Weekend
Join the Chisholm Trail Adventure staff and Venturing Crew 1872 at
the Battle of Crockett Civil War Reenactment, in Crockett, TX. Youll
wear the uniform, learn the drill, eat the food, and live the life
of a trooper in the 1860s. Venture Crew Members can work on
their Outdoor Living History Elective for the Ranger Award. Open to:
Boy Scouts, Varsity Teams, and Venturing; must be 14 to participate.

Highland
Games - in conjunction with the Gathering
of the Clans
Camp
Tahuaya. The Games will be held on the same weekend as the Gathering
of the Clans festival in Salado. Troops and Crews may camp at Tahuaya,
participate in the morning Highland Games at Camp, and visit the nearby
Highland Festival in the afternoon and evening. This is a Venturing
Event, that is also open to Boy Scouts, Varsity Team members, &
adults. The Highland Games program includes: clackneart (small stone
throw), Braemar )big stone throw), hammer throw, sheaf toss, caber
toss, weight toss, Highland dancing, and more. Equipment, kilts, and
awards provided. Adult, youth, male, and female divisions in highland
games.

US
Cavalry Living History Winter Camp
Learn the the history of 1870's frontier Texas as you serve for a
week as a Cavalry soldier during the Southern Plains War of 1872-1874.
The U.S. Cavalry Company program is for Boy Scouts age 13 and older,
and Venturing Crew members age 14 and older. Schedule: 9:00 a.m. December
26th to 8:00 PM campfire, December 30th, with an overnight stay in
the barracks at Fort Richardson on December 30-31. Cavalry Outpost
includes authentic uniforms, food, and equipment, a large battle reenactment
against local Civil War reenactment groups. Venture Crew Members can
work on their Outdoor Living History Elective for the Ranger Award.

Tower
Training and Recerts
Tower Training (& Recert. Classes). 10-hour class designed to
certify ADULTS to lead Tower climbing and rappelling activities for
single units (This certification does NOT cover multi-unit activities,
like camporees). There is no class size limit, but pre-registration
is required. 8:00 a.m. to 6 PM must arrive on time. At Sid
Richardson Scout Ranch.

Spring
Orienteering Competition
Two events in one: (1) individual & team competitions, and (2)
group map hikes. Spring-O is a Cross-Country Orienteering
competition for teams of two or for individual competitors, as well
as group map hiking for casual orienteers and hikers. You follow a
set course to find 10-15 orienteering flags in a specific order. Its
a race: your time on the course is your score. Its a test of
your map reading and decision making skills. At each control flag
you must choose the best route to get to the next one: straight over
the hill or take the road around it; though the thick woods or circle
around them. Everyone can enter: families, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Venturers, Explorers, adults, ROTC units, and the public. This is
an official U.S. Orienteering Federation event, co-sponsored by the
Longhorn Council and the North Texas Orienteering Association. At
Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.

The banquet will feature the great accomplishments of the volunteers
in the Longhorn Council. Special presentations will include the Silver
Beaver Awards given for outstanding service to youth in the Longhorn

Spring
Canoe Race
Two races: a 6-mile Fun Race from Worth Ranch to the Highway 4 bridge
and a 14 mile Race for experienced canoeists from the Dam to camp.
100-yard War Canoe Race in the afternoon. 14-Mile racers will launch
early. 6-Mile racers will have assigned start times to avoid congestion
at the launch point. Lunch, boats, equipment, awards, and supper provided.
Open to Boy Scouts, Venturers, Explorers, and adults. Parent/Youth
teams welcome. Be sure to get the Early Registration Discount!

The 2006 Longhorn Council Scout Show is designed to showcase Scouting
to the community while giving Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture
Crews and Explorer Posts the opportunity to raise money for spring
and summer activities.
On May 13, 2006 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM the Longhorn Council's Districts
will present the best their Packs, Troops, Crews and Posts have to
offer to the communities of our Council as they demonstrate, display,
the fun and learning activities of Scouting.

Join our expert wakeboard staff for a week of intermediate to advanced
wakeboarding instruction and fun. Plan to ride hard - many more hours
than you would at any ski school. Skiing or wakeboarding experience
